Rabbit And Carrot

Video style · A practical guide

Live Action Video

Live action video uses filmed people, places, products and events. It is a natural choice when viewers need to see real behaviour, meet the people behind a business or understand what a physical experience looks like.

Show the real thing

An interview can communicate a person’s perspective. A demonstration can show how a product is handled. Location footage can establish the scale and atmosphere of a workplace. Choose the evidence that answers your audience’s question rather than collecting attractive shots without a clear purpose.

Plan before the shoot

A useful brief names the audience, main message, locations and required outputs. Prepare a shot list, schedule and interview prompts. Confirm access, permissions, contributors and a suitable place to record sound. A short preparation conversation can help an interviewee speak naturally without memorising a long script.

Build the story in the edit

The edit combines selected footage with sound, titles and, where helpful, 2D graphics. Supporting shots can demonstrate what an interviewee is discussing. Captions help viewers follow the film when audio is unavailable. Plan shorter versions at the outset so the shoot captures what each version needs.

Where it fits

Use live action for company stories, customer interviews, product demonstrations and event coverage. If the central idea is invisible or hypothetical, animation may explain that part more clearly. The two approaches can appear in the same film.

Common questions

Does live action require actors?

Not always. Employees, founders or subject experts may be the right contributors. Casting depends on whether the film documents reality or stages a scenario.

Can animation be added?

Yes. Titles, diagrams and animated callouts can clarify filmed content when they have a specific purpose.
